This photo essay will focus on the work of Vice President and Creative Director of Design Development Co., David Lieberman in Agoura Hills, Calif. There he leads the charge on conceptual development, presentation and implementation of all projects.
Clients love his ability to turn one dimensional floorplans into vibrant, 3D drawings that evolve into one-of-a-kind restaurants and more.
“The process gives me an emotional connection to the project,” he said of sketching, which draws clients into a space in their mind’s eye in a more real way with the color and whimsy of a brush or pencil stroke. “The loose nature of the process allows my imagination to flourish. The mind through the eyes to hand to paper is magical and what brings it to life. Ideas are born through drawing.”
He’s also an avid traveler who always has his sketchbook in hand. “It’s a camera for me,” he explained. “Capturing moments—travel sketching allows me to really observe and see the wonderful details in architecture and nature. It’s the zone for me to full engage with the design process or the scene of my travels.”
We decided to feature a few of not just his restaurant concepts, but also some scenes from his journeys around the world. His art doesn't just offer a snapshot; it tells an intimate story of a memorable experience.
