Firm builds award-winning sculpture depicting iconic racing sausages
Plunkett Raysich Architects, LLP (PRA), one of Wisconsin’s leading architecture and interior design firms, was presented the Juror’s Choice Award for its canned goods sculpture at the 2014 Milwaukee Canstruction event at Bayshore Town Center. The PRA creation, which depicts the iconic Racing Sausages made famous at Milwaukee Brewers baseball games, earned the top award at the first ever Canstruction in Milwaukee.
The Canstruction competition tasked five local architectural and construction firms with building Milwaukee-themed sculptures from non-perishable canned goods. The cans used in the designers were donated to the Jewish Community Pantry at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC). The JCC partnered with the Bayshore Town Center and its philanthropic arm, Olshan Outreach, to bring Canstruction to Milwaukee for the first time its 22-year history.
The PRA sculpture design, which was developed over several months, incorporates 1,377 cans of food and shows the five Racing Sausages sitting on a bench. To accurately recreate each unique sausage, the six-member PRA Canstruction team spent three hours building the sculpture, using 13 different canned food items.
