Johnsonite®, a Tarkett company and provider of the world’s most integrated high-performance flooring system, introduces Folio, a playful collection of rubber designs modeled after nature’s beautiful foliage patterns.
Consisting of six designs based on tree, branch and leaf forms, the natural patterns in the new Folio collection bring a literal aspect to environmental awareness. Stylized and simplified, the designs form intriguing patterns of positive and negative space. With each tile, every pattern element is defined by its texture and the design is formed by the light, shadow and reflectance of the various textures. Ideal for spaces that require a comfortable, natural ambiance, the Folio collection mixes well with a wide range of interior styles – from classic and transitional to the clean lines of retro and modern.
The designs in the collection work together, alone and in pairs, as well as offering endless design possibilities when mixed with solid tiles or other textures. Combining areas of two or more colors in the same pattern can create an unusual effect. Folio options include:
Arbor and Branches
Arbor has a single, raised branch motif, flowing diagonally across a solid matte ground. It is clean, elegant and very simple. Arbor mixes well in combination with Branches, a design in the same style, with four branches in a diagonal arrangement. On their own, each of these designs creates a beautiful cohesive floor; used together they create a compelling rhythmic design flow.
Botany and Seasons
Botany and Seasons are stylized in design. Botany has two sets of simple branches; one curved and one straight, with each element having a distinct texture. The smooth, glossy texture of the flowing branches lays over the hammered texture of the more linear branches. Both are seen against a matte, slightly rougher background texture. Seasons is more abstracted, with smooth, conceptual leaf shapes spread across a hammered field background. The imagery creates a visual of leaves that have fallen naturally across a forest floor.
Grasses and River Cane With a spa-like feel, Grasses features bamboo leaves against a rice paper background texture, anchored by a grid structure. River Cane is a larger scale version of Grasses. Combining the two designs will create an interesting play on scale, as well as offering the interior designer some unique options in space planning. Grasses and River Cane have a fresh, simple aesthetic with a different ‘signature’ than the other four designs. They are less stylized and more literal, while at the same time having the complexity offered by the combination of curvilinear and geometric elements.
Made of rubber, the Folio collection has a long life cycle and is low maintenance. Over time rubber flooring offers greater resource efficiency than many other materials and the ability for the product to be recycled reduces its impact on the environment. As a industry leader in sustainability in North America, Tarkett and its Johnsonite company are committed to creating products like the Folio collection and to offering solutions that balance what’s good for people, the environment and economics.
