Located in Charlotte, N.C., the new regional headquarters of LPL Financial sits on a 27.9-acre campus and spans 450,000 square feet in two buildings. It will concentrate over 1,000 employees and prepare the company for anticipated growth in the Southeast, said LPL CEO Mark Casady.
“We want to create a workplace that will promote employees’ well-being and be a place they are proud of and excited to come to every day,” Casady said.
Offices are separated from the elevator and stair cores, allowing nearly all occupants to have a view of the outdoors. Glass stair enclosures offer sweeping views of the adjacent 2,100-acre Anne Springs Close Greenway, encouraging employees to stay active and engaged with the natural world. The facility also features bicycle storage, outdoor meeting areas, ergonomic workspaces, and an on-site eatery, fitness center, and health clinic.
“Sustainability is about more than just green construction—it’s also about employee well-being,” said Brown. “Knowing that, our design for daylighting also encourages employees to take the stairs and move around the campus.”
LPL’s priority for the site is to attract and retain top talent. The campus is a centerpiece of the community’s new mixed use development called Kingsley, which boasts hotels, residences, restaurants, and retail.
“The location is walkable and active,” said David Brown, principal with tvdesign, the architect and interior designer of record for the project. “Having LPL’s input empowered us to imagine ways to bring the company’s vision for its campus to life and to suit their unique needs. LPL expressed to us from the outset how important having an engaging and sustainable workplace was for them.”
Pursuing LEED certification, the site’s eco-friendly strategies include net-zero water efficiency, electric vehicle charging stations, tree preservation around the buildings, and the use of local and recycled materials throughout. Inspired by the area’s long legacy of textile manufacturing, the interior woodwork will be constructed from white oaks reclaimed from the campus grounds.
Employees can expect to move to the campus in fall 2016, when the project is slated for completion.
