Make's Cool Kiosk

Feb. 10, 2014
The prefab kiosk transforms from a box into a bold retail space.

The Japanese art of origami seems to be enjoying a moment, with its soft folds and creases showing up everywhere from chairs to lighting fixtures. Thanks to London-based Make Architects, you can now add “prefabricated retail kiosk” to that list.

Expressed as a compact, sculptural rectangular box when closed, Make’s kiosk is transformed when open, with folds and hinges in the aluminum panels allowing them to expand and contract like a fan when the kiosk opens and closes.

“Our solution on the modern street kiosk is a distinctive sculptural rectangular box that transforms when it opens and its function is revealed,” said Sean Affleck, lead project architect with Make. “The design is also efficient and functional with compact, robust, durable, easy-to-maintain, and vandal -and graffiti- proof features.”
