MOD

HBF has joined forces with award-winning Swedish designer Henrik Schulz to design the ultimate collaborative seating solution: MOD. Inspired by the activity-based workplace, MOD looks to establish the new normal of today’s office -- offering an elegant seating line of sofas, settees, chairs, benches, and ottomans with a modular sensibility.

“The international workplace is in a period of transition, moving away from enclosed cubicles towards a new landscape that is more human, collaborative, and adaptable,” says Henrik Schulz. “In Scandinavia, this workspace has been the norm for almost two decades, but the design movement is incredibly inspiring to me as a designer.”

Schulz’s humanistic design goal is realized with MOD. MOD’s sleek, metal legs are designed to seamlessly join with different seating parts, regardless of the angle or direction, and modular components allow for endless design and collaboration opportunities. With an all-wood frame, MOD is solid but movable, adapting to the user’s preferred environment. The seating cushion is made with three layers of varying density foam that is topped with down to allow for multiple seating positions, ultimate comfort, and lasting durability. MOD pairs perfectly with laptop tables and low occasional tables, allowing for work or leisure. For increased flexibility, any particular unit within MOD can be equipped with power underneath the seat - adjacent to the leg, inset slightly for convenience, without distracting from the beauty of the piece.

“MOD was created with the evolving office in mind, but it’s designed to look and feel right at home in contract, commercial, and residential spaces,” explains HBF President Dan Chong. “As the distinction between the home and office continues to blur, MOD provides offices with a comfortable work solution that doesn’t compromise elegance. We wanted MOD to have an instantly recognizable, multifunctional design - creating a personal connection between comfort and style - even when you’re away from home. ”

MOD is designed to fit any aesthetic and can take on fresh life depending on the finishes and fabrics selected for it. It is available as a three-seater sofa, a two-seater settee, chair, ottoman, and in various benching sizes. The sofa, settee, and chair are available with or without arms. The cushions can be upholstered in any HBF Textiles fabric/leather or COM, and the legs can be finished in a variety of colors (black, white, grey, polished chrome, satin chrome, and bronze).

HBF will launch MOD alongside a wide portfolio of 2018 releases at NeoCon from June 11-13 at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart in Showroom 387.
