National Office Furniture Dallas Showroom Earns LEED® Gold

Aug. 12, 2011

JASPER, IN – Delivering on its commitment to environmental and social stewardship, National Office Furniture, a brand unit of Kimball International, Inc., announces sustainability achievements with its Dallas showroom attaining LEED Gold and Escalade® casegoods earning level three certification. The Dallas showroom marks National’s sixth LEED-certified facility.

National partnered with PageSoutherlandPage for design services, MEP, structural and LEED project management in earning USGBC’s LEED-CI Gold for the Dallas showroom located in the Dallas Decorative Center. High recycled content and low emitting materials such as adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings and composites, and furniture were specified as well as nonhazardous cleaning supplies incorporated into the building’s maintenance and operations. Additional project results include:

-Ninety percent of the space is connected to outdoor views and natural light

-Efficient lighting decreased energy use 53 percent below the standard

-Estimated 35 percent reduction in water use with the use of low flow, efficient water fixtures

-Seventy-seven percent of the construction waste (by weight) was recycled

-Furniture meets healthy air criteria with certification to SCS Indoor Advantage™ and SCS Indoor Advantage™ Gold

“We’re excited that our dealers, designers and customers have this great, green space to collaborate and experience our solutions and our commitment to sustainability. Special thanks to PageSoutherlandPage for their expertise and creativity in creating stunning, green buildings and interiors,” says Kourtney Smith, VP marketing, National Office Furniture.

“The LEED-CI Gold stamp simply enhances all the design elements and the sustainable furniture showcased in National’s new showroom and resource center. It’s great to work with companies, such as National Office Furniture, that have relentless enthusiasm and dedication towards sustainability,” says Lindsey Mathias, Designer, LEED Green Associate, PageSoutherlandPage.

For more good news, Escalade casegoods now feature National’s proprietary, water-based UV finish, IntegraClear™, enabling this series to achieve SCS Indoor Advantage™ certification for meeting strict indoor air quality criteria. The series has also been awarded ANSI/BIFMA level® 3 certification which can contribute toward LEED® points. National recently announced that all company-manufactured products are certified either level 2 or 3. Based on the ANSI/BIFMA Furniture e3 Sustainability Standard, level® is a multi-attribute, third-party certification program that evaluates the environmental impact of contract furniture products through the entire life cycle, including the areas of material selection, manufacturing processes, energy used, human and ecosystem health impacts, and social responsibility. Level 3 is the highest certification awarded under the current program.

“From our people and transportation to facilities and product, sustainability is at the core of our business. We’re proud to provide the marketplace with more level 3 contract furniture choices to make it easy to not only specify green product, but a responsible manufacturer too,” says Mendy Claridge, sustainable and technical product solutions manager, LEED AP ID+C, National Office Furniture.
