BKLYN DESIGNS has evolved immensely since its infancy more than 10 years ago, growing to become a powerful component of May’s annual NYCxDesign event series. Housed at the Brooklyn Expo Center from May 5-7, it encompasses dozens of exhibitors focusing on not just the home but also commercial markets in need of a residential feel. All of the following manufacturers and products can be found at this year’s show.
Wee Cosy
The adorable Wee Cosy from Scotland-based Makers Market is just one of many uses for its brightly patterned, eco-friendly textiles. It is screen printed with water-based inks on 100-percent natural cotton canvas, used to keep contents of a teapot warm.

Sleek yet warm, the OT/TRA bench is just one piece in the 2017 collection. The company is an offshoot of Zimmerman Workshop, an architecture firm. The line is entirely designed and made in Brooklyn.

Cactus Spirit
Aimée Wilder
Aimée Wilder designs everything from pillows to rugs to fabrics, as well as playful wallpapers that offer a vintage feel, such as the oversized cactus repeat featured here. Cactus Spirit (in the color Desert) is screen printed by hand on clay-coated, FSC-certified paper. Wilder’s creations are inspired by her fashion and fine art background.

Mid Modern Filing Cabinet
Mark Jupiter
The Mid Modern Filing Cabinet from Mark Jupiter is an investment that can’t go wrong. Mark Jupiter constructs this piece from reclaimed American black walnut and solid brass, but it’s also available in a variety of other species and metals. Dimensions are 60-inches long x 16-inches wide x 84-inches tall.

Uni Bowl by Carol Joo Lee
Greenpoint Hill
Be sure to check out the Uni Bowl by Carol Joo Lee, on display at the Greenpoint Hill booth. This gallery and shop, curated by Kim Brown, focuses on local makers and blurs the line between contemporary, fine, functional, and decorative art. The Uni Bowl is made of porcelain with gold luster spikes and is 2.5-inches x 5-inches wide on the inside and 5-inches tall with the spiked lid.
