dash design Completes Second Heartis Property

Feb. 21, 2023
Heartis Buckhead reaches a next level aesthetic for the senior living market.
dash design has added another Heartis property to its portfolio with Heartis Buckhead, located in the iconic Atlanta neighborhood. With 213 luxury residential units in independent living, assisted living and memory care levels, along with accommodations for caregivers, the project achieves a new level of standards for the senior living aesthetic, pulled from the firm’s deep roots in hospitality. Located in a modern high-rise building which features street-level amenity spaces, the innovative site use and design compliments and enhances the neighborhood.

"The finished product is a very modern re-imagination of an integrated senior living community,” said David Ashen, president of dash design. Caddis Partners (owners of the Heartis brand) contracted with dash design way back when with their first senior living community project in Yardley, Penn. “What was most important was that they were willing to ‘color outside the lines’ and explore design ideas that might not have typically been accepted in senior living,” Ashen explained.

“We wanted this to be elevated but familiar,” he said. “We wanted to be authentic to the neighborhood and took great pain to understand the neighborhood demographic.” They settled on a more modern design (more appropriate for Buckhead residents) with colors and textures derived from the history of the area as a rich clay resource. An expansive use of glass and focus on exterior lighting also help establish the community as a well-defined presence. An expansive art program curated by Atlanta-based art consultancy Faulkner+Locke strikes the perfect balance between past and present and includes large scale works on canvas in the lobby by local artists Terri Dilling and Laura Bell. Vintage Braves and Peachtree Road Race memorabilia accent the fitness center and lounges and a collection of vintage photography from the Atlanta History Center in the corridors is designed to spark memories of the resident’s lives in the city.
With Buckhead affectionately called the “city in a forest,” a strong connection to the outdoors was also established with a series of parks peppered with walkways, pergolas and carefully landscaped areas to provide options for residents in all levels of care. Pedestrian connections along Peachtree Road encourage residents and staff to take advantage of nearby businesses. A direct approach to the adjacent medical office building is easily accessed as well for any further healthcare needs.

Residents also enjoy luxury amenities such as the Sky Lounge, complete with a rooftop deck and sports bar, as well as 18th floor dining with a 180-degree view of the Atlanta skyline. Essential conveniences such as a barber shop and beauty salons, art studios, game rooms, a library and more are all a part of the community.
