CHICAGO—The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is pleased to announce the Library Interior Design Awards, a biennial competition co-sponsored by the American Library Association. The competition honors the best in library interior design. Award winners demonstrate excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, function, and satisfaction of the client’s objectives.
The competition, managed by the Library Leadership and Management Buildings and Equipment Section of ALA, is now open. The deadline to enter is March 30, 2012. Any library interior design project completed between October 1, 2009 and October 1, 2011 can be entered. Previous publication is acceptable. The project must be submitted by a legally practicing design professional.
Each project may be entered in only one category:
- Public libraries 30,000 square feet and smaller
- Public libraries over 30,000 square feet
- Academic libraries 30,000 square feet and smaller
- Academic libraries over 30,000 square feet
- Special libraries 30,000 square feet and smaller
- Special libraries over 30,000 square feet
- Outstanding historical renovation project
- Single space: a small project that focuses on a specific room or area in a library.
- On the boards: a project currently in the design phase and not under construction.
The cost to enter is $200 per entry for IIDA members and $250 per entry for non-members. Entry fees are non-refundable. Download the entry form at the IIDA website (PDF).
The winning design projects are selected by a jury of design professionals. Winners and their clients are honored at the ALA Annual Conference in June 2012 in Anaheim, California and will be published in American Libraries, as well as other publications.
