As another year nears its close, we love a good “top trends” retrospective. In the November/December issue of i+s Magazine, we kicked off with the editors’ five favorite projects we’ve reported on in 2024. 4. Book Blends Neuroscience with Interior Design Principles
In late summer, interior designer Joscelin Mackey released a new book—Designing for the Senses: A Neuroscientific Exploration of Interiors—that details the intricate connections between neurological and sensory experiences in the built environment…and how to develop the most inclusive spaces across a variety of fields, from urban planning to healthcare and therapeutic facilities to classrooms, hospitality venues, and more.

3. Behr Started a Trend with Rumors
We love a good trends forecast- and so do readers, apparently. Behr’s Color of the Year reveal showed that consumers and design professionals were ready for a sophisticated jewel tone to highlight a focal point, such as doors, accent walls, bars, and counter seating, among others. The velvety ruby red of “Rumors” certainly makes a statement.
2. NeoCon Honors More Than 100 Products
With NeoCon being the biggest and most well attended North American interior design and product showcase of the year, it’s no surprise that the 2024 Best of NeoCon Awards piqued the interest of many readers. The awards organizers noted trends of vibrant color accents, a relaxed and whimsical aesthetic, and greater versatility of products among those recognized. And in a first for Wall Treatments and Textiles entrants, the collaboration between artist Yinka Ilori and Momentum Textiles & Wallcoverings garnered the Best of Competition distinction for their beautiful, brilliantly colored patterned and solid wallcovering and textile collection.
1. Sherwin-Williams Celebrates Iconic Color with Capsule Collection
The top industry news on the i+s website this year was October’s announcement of the Color Capsule of the Year from Sherwin-Williams. The paint & coatings manufacturer also teamed up with floral design company East Olivia to create a custom forever floral bouquet inspired by the neutrals, deep teal green, and fresh yellow and lavender hues included in celebration of Sherwin-Williams’ 15th anniversary of its Color of the Year.
