Coverings 2024 Celebrates Earth Day, Sustainable Design

April 22, 2024
Coverings 2024 celebrates Earth Day with sustainability-focused activities, uniting global industry professionals to promote eco-friendly design practices using ceramic tile.

In celebration of Earth Day and the first day of Coverings 2024, April 22, North America's largest and preeminent international tile and stone exhibition and conference Coverings will offer a selection of sustainability-centric show activities. Coverings 2024 takes place April 22-25 at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Coverings 2024 will unite thousands of global industry professionals to promote sustainable design, building and installation practices through ceramic tile as part of Earth Day eco-focused programming.

The Coverings 2024 Earth Day festivities are accessible to attendees through learning sessions, workshops, displays, tours and philanthropic programs to feature the various eco-friendly elements of ceramic tile. It will offer showgoers opportunities to explore ceramic tile's vital role in helping to build a greener future.

Coverings' partnership with Clean the World, a global leader in sustainable, environmental and social impact solutions, will kick off the Earth Day activations. Showgoers can partake in the "Clean the World" initiative, where the hospitality industry's used soap bars and plastic amenities are transformed into lifesaving, essential supplies for communities worldwide. People can volunteer to create recycled hygiene kits April 22 in Hall B, Booth 1017, at Coverings 2024. The finished kits will be donated to an Atlanta philanthropic organization.

Be sure to vote for your favorite dog house before the stories expire. Stay tuned to see which dog house reigns supreme.

Renowned mosaic artist David Arnott will showcase his work in the Artisan Showcase in Hall C, Booth 7259. "Arnott will craft a tile mosaic representation of the planet in celebration of Earth Day," according to the Coverings 2024 press release.

Using leftover tiles from Coverings' exhibitors, Arnott will turn potential waste into original, beautiful artwork. The piece will be donated to a local Atlanta organization. Attendees can meet Arnott and see him create sustainable artistry.

In addition to the numerous Earth Day activations, Coverings 2024 is strengthening its commitment to sustainable design, building and installation with ceramic tile and natural stone through a presentation of several environmentally focused educational sessions, particularly relevant for the architecture and design (A&D) community. Sessions tailored to the A&D sector include "Tile Industry Insights: Deciphering Embodied Carbon and Green Architecture and Design" on April 22 and partner education from Green Builder Media's "Housing 2.0" workshop on April 23.

The A&D community will gain knowledge and tools to advance sustainable practices for their projects so they are more relevant and impactful in today's environmentally conscious landscape. The "Housing 2.0" workshop requires registration separately and a fee to secure a spot. Additional education under Covering's "Sustainability" tenet will feature "Building Resilience for Health" and "Reducing Embodied Carbon with Natural Stone," slated for April 24.

To support green initiatives, the tile and stone industry and the Atlanta community, the new-to-2024 Coverings Cares program has a donation pool of up to $50,000. Registrants can pick one of six vetted charitable organizations during registration for this year's event, including EarthDay.org.

Coverings will donate $10 to organizations selected by event registrants, who can match or exceed the donated amount if desired. The donations will go toward philanthropic causes for the first 5,000 attendees who attend Coverings 2024 onsite. Showgoers can visit the Coverings mobile app and digital signage for ways to make their visit as green as possible. They can also recycle their show badges in bins at the end of the event.
