High Performance Roof

Sept. 7, 2004
The renovation of the Wood County Library in Bowling Green, OH, completed in spring 2003, features 15,000-square-feet of CENTRIA’s SRS® 3 creating a performance-oriented curved roof. Both straight and curved SRS roof panels were specified for this project with the curved portion above a bank of windows that allow natural light to enter the library. The $5.7 million project was a result of 8-years of extensive research and planning with all changes incorporating suggestions from focus groups and community surveys. The newly remodeled two-story, state-of-the-art library now spans 50,000 square-feet and offers an array of services. The first floor houses the children’s collection and atrium, including a reading lounge and stage lighting for public performances. Two public meeting rooms for community groups have also been added. The second floor includes the technology center with 30 Internet-accessible computers, all book collections and 20 catalog workstations.Hilton & Associates, Toledo, OH, served as the dealer on this project, Bayview Sheetmetal, Toledo, OH, as the installer, Rudolph Libbe, Walbridge, OH, as the general contractor, and Poggemeyer Design Group, Bowling Green, OH, as the architect.CENTRIA’s SRS 3 roof can be curved at the factory or on the job site. Curving panels at the job site eliminates shipping concerns. The panels for the Wood Library project were curved on site.During the curving process, the SRS 3 panel is positioned on its side and fed through the curving machine, which has roller stands positioned to support the panel. The machine produces curvature in the SRS 3 panel by elongating the upper portion of the standing seam. By stretching the upper panel elements instead of incrementally buckling the panel, the curved profile remains as strong as the straight panel for any individual span. The SRS 3 panel can be specified for open framing applications as a structural standing seam roof panel.CENTRIA provides the roll forming and curving equipment as well as an operator. Designed for use in the plant or at the job site, CENTRIA’s SRS 3 curving equipment is operated by diesel generator power and is permanently mounted to a trailer platform for easy movement.Available in widths of 12 inches, 16 inches and 18 inches, with a 3-inch seam height, CENTRIA’s SRS 3 is offered in aluminum with a 20-foot minimum radius, steel with 30-foot minimum radius and stainless steel with 40-foot minimum radius.CENTRIA’s SRS 3 Roofs employ a separate, continuous batten, providing exceptional resistance to severe weather conditions. This product provides clean, unbroken lines, and continuous transitions.Based in Moon Township, near Pittsburgh, CENTRIA (www.CENTRIA.com) is an international company and the nation’s premier supplier of architectural metal wall and roof systems used in industrial/commercial projects.Jaimie Kasperowicz
