Visitors of the Whitney Museum of American Art can take respite on Cappellini’s Elan sofa by Jasper Morrison. Situated on the fifth floor in the Neil Bluhm Family Galleres, the seating was selected by architect Renzo Piano to overlook the Hudson River and downtown Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.
The most recent version of Elan extended the range with a new pouf and angular composition. The structure comprises solid fir, poplar plywood, and metal frame, while the seat is composed of feather wrapped in polyurethane foam. Several fabrics and leathers can serve as the removable cover, and leg finishes are available in satin stainless steel, matte lacquer white, and anthracite.
The sleek design enhances Piano’s modern, contemporary museum space. A total of 12 sofas lend to the serene environment of the fifth floor—a column-free exhibitions gallery in which guests are encouraged to deeply connect with the art.
