Who are you?
I am Quarry, and I was conceived as a simplified version of a rock quarry by Leland International.
Who in your family do you most
resemble?
Everyone. We have surprisingly strong DNA, although some of us are taller, shorter and … uh … wider than others.
How do you define good design?
My designer, Bruce Sienkowski, says good design is a balance between function, cost and aesthetic. I couldn’t agree more.
What is your biggest turn-on?
Seamless collaboration (although eavesdropping on personal conversations is fun, too).
Turn-offs?
Loneliness and a lack of technology. I need to hear people talking and see them using my power pod, technology screen and laptop tablet. I like when they get my family involved, too.
How do you lessen your environmental impact?
I’m 100 percent recyclable—you can call me “green to the core.” And I’m built to last, so you won’t need to replace me anytime soon!
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have three things, what would they be?
Two humans and one of my brothers. With the Quarry family on the job, those two would be able to brainstorm our way right off the island.
What do you see when you look in the mirror?
It depends on where the mirror is and which textile or leather I’m wearing. I’m asymmetrical, and therefore have the pleasure of seeing a different beautiful angle and my detailed, crisp double stitching every time I look at myself. Not that I’m a narcissist.
In what type of interior environment do you make the greatest impact?
Anywhere meant for informal, relaxed and comfortable collaboration. I can be a bench in public, too. Adults and children alike are instinctively drawn to me.
Describe the secret to your success.
Versatility. I can be arranged as an armrest or a back-supporting hero. People can perch, lean and sit on me, and as a reward, I can give them a power pod, tablet arm, work-surface scooter, LCD screen and whiteboard. I can be the rock—pun intended—that keeps people talking.
