Gensler Architecture, Design & Planning Worldwide has appointed 12 new vice presidents, 30 senior associates and 86 associates. The promotions are made on an annual basis in recognition of outstanding client service, innovation, contribution to the Gensler organization and community participation. The new vice presidents are: Stephen Andrews, RIBA and Marla Brown (London, England); Reid Brockmeier, AIA (Morristown, NJ); Collin Burry, IIDA (San Francisco, CA); John Gaulden, AIA (Charlotte, NC); Donald J. Ghent Jr., AIA (Washington, DC); Roger Godwin (Atlanta, GA); Arpy Hatzikian and Keith Thompson (Los Angeles, CA); Ralph J. Mocerino, AIA (Detroit, MI); Ken Sanders, FAIA (Firmwide Resources); and Grant C. Uhlir, AIA (Chicago, IL).

Smith Consulting Architects, San Diego, CA, has named Norman Barrett, AIA, as project architect and Ned Haskell as project manager. They are charged with collaborating with the firm's clients on various office, industrial and retail projects; project management; design development; creation of construction projects; bidding; and construction administration.

Thomas Curley, AIA, has joined the New York, NY, office of the HOK Planning Group as vice president. Curley has 15 years experience as urban design studio head for SOM in New York. His credentials embrace the urban design and planning of significant public, institutional and private sector projects throughout the U.S.

Flack + Kurtz has appointed David Cooper, PE, CEM, executive vice president, to the position of managing director of its New York, NY, office. He is also a member of its board of directors. He is a 22-year veteran of the firm.

Nick Roccaforte has been named senior managing director of operations for the Q Group Advisors, a health consulting division of Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects, Houston, TX. A former healthcare executive with more than 30 years of leadership and operation experience, Roccaforte will oversee Q Group's programming and master planning.

Douglas R. Parker, AIA has joined Greenway Consulting as principal. He will serve as a senior consultant for Greenway's consulting services with emphasis on: sales, marketing and implementation strategies for product manufacturers/suppliers; workplace strategy and metric development with design firms; and strategic development of interior design practices and consulting with educational institutions to develop curriculum for interiors' students.

DMJM Design has added three new employees to its Washington, DC, office: Patrick Koby, AIA, project architect/ manager; James Maitland, RA, senior architect; and Shirley Fox, NCIDQ, senior space planner.

Taylor & Associates Architects, Newport Beach, CA, has promoted Brad Smith, IIDA, CID, Assoc. AIA, to principal. He has been with the firm for over 12 years and has played a key role in the continuing growth of the architecture and interior design firm.

Richard Pollack & Associates, San Francisco, CA, have made the following appointments: David Galullo, AIA, IIDA, has been named president of the firm; senior project manager Sara Andersen, AIA, and project manager Shervin Tajbaksh, AIA, have been named senior associates; and project architect Eddy Dere and senior designer James Pollet have been named associates.

FRCH Design Worldwide, Cincinnati, OH, has appointed José A. Garcia as vice president, architecture design. In this new position, Garcia is responsible for leading design staff as well as maintaining client relationships for the retail centers studio.

Barbara McNutt has joined HKS, Inc., Dallas, TX, as senior project manager/business development director for the firm's commercial interior group. She will be responsible for working closely with clients in all stages of a project, assisting in the development of their goals and requirements as well as overseeing a staff of designers, architects and other specialists to monitor and direct the program of each project. Design Origins by Shaw, Dalton, GA, has named Desiree Worsley as national sales manager. She has 23 years of experience in manufacturing, direct sales and sales management. Worsley replaces Tracy Bledsoe, who has been promoted to vice president of operations and will be responsible for internal daily operations.

Fred Bendana has been promoted to market development manager for Solutia, St. Louis, MO. He will oversee development of architectural business for Solutia's laminated glazing interlayers business within the performance products division. Bendana is a four-year Solutia veteran and is responsible for the western region of the U.S.

Steve Noeth has joined Chicago Metallic Corp. as eastern regional manager. He has over 14 years of experience in sales management and marketing, as well as five years in distribution channel strategy development.

Chuck Hendry has been appointed director of hospitality, national accounts, for Durkan Patterned Carpet, a division of The Mohawk Group. Hendry will supervise the company's team of national account managers and regional managers in focusing on large hospitality franchises. He is a seven-year industry veteran.

MTS Seating, Temperance, MI, has named John Menas as vice president of sales, foodservice, and John Freeman as national account manager, chain restaurants. Menas was previously vice president of sales and marketing at Sauvagnat, Inc., where he was responsible for the hospitality and contract division. Freeman was formerly MTS' national sales manager, foodservice, and will be responsible for promoting MTS' commercial hospitality applications for the chain restaurant industry as well as overseeing half of the MTS chain restaurant accounts in the U.S.

Sandy Butler has joined Mannington Commercial, Calhoun, GA, in a dual role as national business development manager for the corporate market segment and manager of environmental initiatives. He joins Mannington with over 20 years experience in the flooring industry. In addition, the company has promoted Dave Thoresen to director of sales and marketing for the resilient flooring division. Thoresen will oversee management of all sales and marketing activities as well as product development.Expansions & Acquisitions

DuPont Textiles & Interiors has changed its name to Invista in an effort to create a separate identity for the company. It was also announced that an agreement has been reached for Invista to be purchased by two subsidiaries of Koch Industries: KED Fiber Ltd. and KED Fiber, LLC. Closing is expected in the first half of 2004. The purchase will include all of Invista's businesses including apparel, interiors and industrial, and intermediates. In addition, it includes Invista's extensive portfolio of trademarks and brands including Antron®, Lycra®, Stainmaster®, Coolmax®, Thermolite® and Cordura®, as well as over 8,000 patents and significant proprietary intellectual property. Koch will integrate its KoSa businesses—global manufacturers of commodities and specialty polyester products—into Invista.

Brennan Beer Gorman/ Architects and Brennan Beer Gorman Monk/Interiors (BBG-BBGM) are expanding their practices with a new office in Scottsdale, AZ. Kathryn Mickel has been named managing director of the office.Honors

Lees Carpets was recently recognized for its continuing commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing processes and products with a runner-up distinction in the Virginia Manufacturers Association's (VMA) 2003 Governor's Environmental Excellence Awards. Lees was honored in the Environmental Projects for Large Manufacturers category for a water reduction and recycling initiative in its Glasgow, VA manufacturing facility.

The Symposium on Healthcare Design awarded its first Symposium Distinction Award in the Individual Category to Jonathan Bailey, NCARB, NCIDQ, AIA. The award honors individual contributors to the healthcare industry who have shown leadership in their organizations and have pioneered unique, innovative and above-and-beyond approaches in architecture, interior design and facilities planning that enhance the healing environment. Bailey serves as president and CEO of Jonathan Bailey Associates (JBA), a global leader in healthcare architecture with headquarters in Dallas, TX.
