Design-savvy options for any budget

JANUS et Cie has been serving a number of design markets for decades, with its focus on craftsmanship, precision quality, and now a catalogue of more than 6,000 pieces of furniture, decorative accessories, and performance textiles to choose from. Founded in 1978, the company’s namesake—the Roman god Janus—can have numerous meanings. Depicted as having two faces—one looking toward the future and the other back to the past—JANUS represents the manufacturer’s foundation in tradition, heritage, and craft, as well as its dedication to innovative materials and progressive engineering. But perhaps JANUS was also looking toward the opposing industries of home and commercial. Here are a few of the company’s options that not only effortlessly walk that crossover line, but also lie within the parameters of a variety of budgetary limits.

$
sketch $307

Sketch is a playful, lightweight seating collection of six brightly colored chairs for either indoor or outdoor environments. The frame and seat are polypropylene, twisted into a symmetrical scroll design for the chair back. It can stack up to six and includes both an armchair (featured here) and side chair model.

matisse $1,999

The Matisse two-seater sofa is an economical choice that doesn’t hold out on clean, modern design. The powder-coated aluminum frame cradles mesh-encased, reticulated foam cushions ideal for high-traffic areas and outdoor use. The entire line is modular and lightweight for easy reconfiguration wherever flexible seating arrangements are required.

tosca $5,503

The Tosca outdoor lounge chair offers a bold, unique aesthetic thanks to its signature braided framing, available in a linen and wenge (pictured here) finish. The strapping is made of a durable foam encased in a sheath of knitted textilene and polyolefin, making it both weather-resistant and soft to the touch. The frame is powder-coated stainless steel.

$$$
pacific $2,990

The Pacific collection (pictured here in Limestone) is a series of modular furniture that exemplifies the luxury and glamour of the work of architects such as Charles Eames and Richard Neutra in Southern California during the 1950s. JANUSfiber—a high-density, polyethylene-based synthetic fiber—is crafted into a tri-woven design over a rust-resistant powder-coated aluminum frame on top of stainless-steel feet.

amari $1,747

Amari is known for its signature, sculptural back and base, all crafted from JANUSfiber handwoven around powder-coated aluminum. The collection includes table options, stools, sofas, lounge chairs (low-back lounge chair pictured), as well as petite sizes of the side chair and armchair to accommodate spaces requiring smaller footprints for higher-volume seating.

$$$
fibonacci $3,066

The Fibonacci Anda lounge chair is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, and is crafted from JANUSfiber blooming over a powder-coated steel frame. It features 39-inch-wide “wing tips,” which travel all the way to the floor. The Fibonacci line was designed by Gabellini Sheppard Associates in New York and was inspired by the organic movement found in nature. It includes a variety of seating options, as well as dining tables.
