A Mohawk in the New York Fashion District

May 17, 2018

Mohawk Group opens a new flagship location in New York City's Fashion District, expressing the company’s commitment to stylish and innovative floor coverings but also to sustainable and wellness design.

A new face has arrived at the heart of New York's Fashion District. Mohawk Group, a producer and distributor of quality commercial flooring, opened a flagship location that evokes the company’s stylish and innovative floor coverings. It's a testament to their commitment to sustainable design.

Paying tribute to the iconic location, Mohawk Group worked with Gensler to craft a showroom of clean lines, biophilic design, and plenty of natural lighting that illuminates the comfortable aesthetics.

First-Hand impressions of Mohawk Group

Our own Michael Stanley witnessed the Mohawk Group's new showroom.

“We have seen many beautiful and thoughtful showrooms recently and the new Mohawk showroom hits every mark! Working with Gensler, Mohawk executed on every detail, including the carefully curated materials and finishes and top consideration to health and wellness. It’s a showcase of a showroom, blending the exhibition of products with a cool work environment…and an herb-garden! Beautifully done.” -- Michael Stanley, Publisher of interiors+sources and ASID’s i+D Magazine

Herb Gardens & Gym Memberships

In an effort to achieve WELL and LEED certifications, Mohawk Group introduced employee-focused initiatives, including:

  • Indoor herb and plant gardens
  • Serving organic fruits, vegetables and healthy snacks
  • Complimentary gym memberships for employees

Mohawk Group doesn't stop with herb gardens and fruit snacks. The building features daylight harvesting light sensors with energy-efficient LED lighting, low-flow faucets, and a wealth of environmentally friendly products.

Why Mohawk Group strives for WELL and LEED Certifications

The WELL Building Standard, created by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), focuses exclusively on the ways buildings (and everything in them) can improve comfort, drive better choices and generally enhance the health and wellness of their users.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) that evaluates the environmental performance and sustainable design of a building. LEED buildings save energy, water, and other resources, as well as generate less waste, and support human health.
