Celebrating 35 Years of the Phillips Collection

May 24, 2018

In celebration of Phillips Collection’s 35th anniversary, i+s highlights several of the company’s unique products featured at this year’s HD Expo.

Fifty years ago, Larry and Sherry Phillips decided to give up their careers of selling Asian antiques and art to fulfill a long-held desire to travel. When their son, Mark, and his wife, Julie, joined them on their international adventures, the family created a company dedicated to bringing beautifully designed antiques, artifacts, and handcrafted objects to the interior design trade. Known as the Phillips Collection, the business has grown into a multi-generation family affair and has become an important design resource, searching the globe to discover stunning, unique products.

Featured at this year’s HD Expo in Las Vegas, the Phillips Collection offers award-winning products from eco-friendly furniture and accessories to lighting and wall decor—all of which are inspired by nature and include exceptional attention to detail. In celebration of Phillips Collection’s 35th anniversary this year, interiors+sources selected a few favorites from the North Carolina-based business’ vast array of offerings. Designed by artists and artisans from the farthest reaches of the globe, check out our picks below.

Seat Belt Dining Chair

Bold, stylish, and comfortable, the Seat Belt Collection has appeared on the big screen in feature films like “Hunger Games,” in the homes of well-known athletes, and has garnered more than 1 million likes on popular Instagram accounts. Each piece utilizes cleverly colorful seat belt strappings, which is how the collection got its name. This award-winning collection comes in 10 colors, including two new metallic versions, and is available as a rocking chair, dining chair, or ottoman.

Boscage Console Table

The Boscage Collection takes its cues from nature with organic slices of reclaimed wood squared off and contained in a matte black iron frame. The word “Boscage” comes from the French word for forest and inspiration for this collection was found in a cluster of trees. The edges of the teak slices are burnt by a torch and are intricately puzzled together one piece at a time to create beautiful console and coffee tables.

Butterfly Collection

Phillips Collection's best-selling Butterfly Collection is made with sustainable mango wood. Mango trees only bear fruit for 10 years or so, at which points farmers have to cut them and replant new trees. Phillips steps in and repurposes the wood into furnishings like bar stools and bar tables. Every piece is hand-carved and finished with butterfly joints. The natural beauty of the wood’s imperfections shines through in this collection.

Dice Wall Art

Take a gamble by rolling the dice on this unique offering. Dramatic strings of wooden dice threaded together on a metal armature create the effect of tumbling down a wall. Easy to mount and versatile in application, the design possibilities with this wall art are endless.

Paint Can Collection

Waste not, want not. Philips’ Paint Can Collection takes recycling to a new level by turning colorful paint cans into art. Available in wall tiles and square or rectangle panels, the unique collection is sure to make a colorful, artistic statement in any commercial or residential space.
