This past March, Anatolia Tile + Stone pledged $1 million to Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign to help build and equip the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital and advance surgery services at Mackenzie Health in Vaughan, Ontario. The Mackenzie Health Foundation’s Exceptional Care Belongs Here campaign is the largest fundraising drive ever led by a community hospital in Canada and is committed to raising $250 million in community contributions toward the total $1.6-billion project cost of the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital.
“We are pleased to make this financial donation which will help to ensure that the highest quality of health care is available in our backyard, when it is needed most for all of our families,” said Bekir Elmaagacli, managing director of Anatolia Tile + Stone which supplies ceramic and stone products throughout the U.S. and Canada. “We hope that this charitable gift made on behalf of the entire Anatolia Tile + Stone team makes a meaningful impact and inspires others in bringing exceptional healthcare to our community.”
A New Hospital
Last year, Mackenzie Health performed close to 9,200 surgeries for patients who needed care for a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions. The new hospital will be Canada’s first “smart” hospital with integrated technology, systems, and medical devices all communicating directly to one another to maximize information exchange and enhance the patient experience. It will also be the first new hospital to open its doors in York Region in over 30 years.
“We continue to make important progress to deliver modern, accessible and frontline health care for residents in Vaughan and throughout York Region,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, co-chair of the Exceptional Care Belongs Here Campaign. “The ongoing construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital is an example of what we can achieve when we work together toward a common cause to elevate the quality of life of all people.”
In recognition of this transformative gift, the surgical waiting room at the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be named in honor of Anatolia Tile + Stone. Construction of the hospital – a 1.2 million-square-foot, state-of-the-heart health care facility – began in Fall 2016 and is making significant progress toward the scheduled completion in 2020.

How to get involved
Since 1977, Mackenzie Health Foundation has raised more than $125 million for capital projects, medical equipment, technology, and educational opportunities for Mackenzie Health. Generosity from the community is a key enhancer in providing the hospital’s patients and their families with premium care. The foundation has a variety of creative ways one can give, including sending e-cards, donating monthly or one-time monetary gifts, starting fundraisers, donating old vehicles, and more.
One fun idea that’s popular for a variety of events like birthdays, showers, or milestone celebrations is ECHOage—an online party website with a charitable twist. Instead of giving presents, guests can make a donation online and the guest of honor receives half of the amount, with the other half going to support the hospital.
Donating time is also a rewarding way to support Mackenzie Health or any local healthcare centers in your region.
