I spoke with Mike Sebev, Destination Sales Executive for the JW Marriott in Chicago while on a trip with the Marriott Convention and Resort Network.
The hotel is a historic landmark for Chicago, so the windows are the original ones installed since 1914, more than 100 years ago.
You might think this would cause an issue with sound control, but Mike explains how they bridged this historic product while meeting the needs of today’s guests and completely keeps out the noise from busy Chicago downtown outside.

I’m Mike Sebev, the Destination Sales Executive for the JW Marriott in Chicago. I’m happy to share it with you, we still have the original windows from 1914, that are really a piece of history of the hotel.

We are a historic landmark for the city of Chicago.
We have to preserve the history and keep the original windows, but we have added double-paned windows to our guest rooms that truly help isolate noise to our guestrooms going in and out.
It also helps with temperatures in Chicago in the summer and the wintertime. It’s a great option for our guests and just a very quiet environment for them as well.
