Window Retrofit Option for Historic Landmarks

July 16, 2019

Many challenges arise with historic buildings, including the JW Marriott, which is a historic landmark for Chicago. Christoph Trappe spoke with Mike Sebev who shared how the hotel met the needs of guests in this century using windows from the last century.

I spoke with Mike Sebev, Destination Sales Executive for the JW Marriott in Chicago while on a trip with the Marriott Convention and Resort Network.

The hotel is a historic landmark for Chicago, so the windows are the original ones installed since 1914, more than 100 years ago.

You might think this would cause an issue with sound control, but Mike explains how they bridged this historic product while meeting the needs of today’s guests and completely keeps out the noise from busy Chicago downtown outside.

We are a historic landmark for the city of Chicago.

We have to preserve the history and keep the original windows, but we have added double-paned windows to our guest rooms that truly help isolate noise to our guestrooms going in and out.

It also helps with temperatures in Chicago in the summer and the wintertime. It’s a great option for our guests and just a very quiet environment for them as well.
