How to Specify Textiles

Whether you specialize in healthcare design or are embarking on your first project, it is important to understand the unique demands that coated fabrics for seating will encounter during their use and lifetime in specific healthcare settings.

The Association for Contract Textiles (ACT)—the definitive resource for contract textile information—will discuss the key considerations designers need when specifying textiles for seating applications in medical environments. This includes: durability and performance; cleaning and disinfection; materiality; and design and construction.

Learning Objectives

  • Assess how a fabric’s durability and performance will perform real-world applications.
  • Identify best practices for coated fabric selection and testing for healthcare upholstered seating.
  • Describe the requirements for contract fabrics in four key areas: Durability and Performance; Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Disinfection; Furniture Design and Manufacturing; and Material Ingredients/Chemical Transparency.
  • Name three considerations for effectively selecting appropriate coated fabrics for healthcare seating.
