OMNOVA Laminates Earn IAQ Certification

July 29, 2013
Both 15 and 20-ounce wall laminates certified by MAS Certified Green.

OMNOVA Solutions announces that its 15- and 20-ounce PVC-based wall laminates have qualified for indoor air quality (IAQ) certification by MAS Certified Green, a global certifier of independent certification of IAQ Claims.

The MAS Certified Green® program certification employs strict metrics for indoor air emissions in North America, guaranteeing that certified products contribute to healthier indoor environments.

“Indoor air quality is extremely important because most people spend as much as 90 percent of their day indoors, whether at home, work or school,” says Martin Bennett, technical director, MAS Certified Green. “Poor air quality can be caused by a number of factors, including inadequate ventilation, poor cleaning and excessive emissions of volatile organic compounds. Products labeled as MAS Certified Green® can be used with confidence to help improve overall indoor air quality.”

Because of the new MAS Certified Green® certification, a number of select OMNOVA wall laminates also meet several environmental standards, including:

  • Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS), a national movement to make schools better places to learn through facilitating the design, construction and operation of high performance school.
  • California’s 01350 Special Environmental Requirements, (currently referred to as the CDPH Standard Method V1.1) designed, in part, to ensure good indoor air quality to protect human health.
  • LEED 2009 and v4 Rating Systems, an international sustainability standard developed by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) to promote Green Building and IAQ by establishing standards for low emitting materials.
  • Testing also demonstrated that when OMNOVA’s 15-ounce wall laminates are utilized as a component in contract office wall systems, their inclusion helped those systems meet the IAQ limits established under the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Sustainability in sections 7.6.1, 7.6.2 and 7.6.3 in private office settings.
