When it comes to selecting a quality hard surface, it’s hard to beat quartz. In Le Sueur, MN, natural stone producer Cambria has perfected the material in its 1-million-square-foot processing facility.
The family-owned company originally produced cheese before turning to quartz in 2000. Now, Cambria offers the only American-made quartz countertops available for commercial and residential applications, and its product is tough.
What are Quartz Countertops?
Granite, marble and wood can’t compare to the benefits quartz provides as a hard surface. It’s nonporous and nonabsorbent so it won’t draw in moisture from raw or leftover food. It’s harder than marble or granite (quartz rates at a seven on the Mohs hardness scale, marble rates from three to five), which means its more durable and less likely to scratch, chip or stain. Plus, quartz doesn’t require regular sealing and only needs a bit of warm water and mild soap to clean.

Considered to be a premium brand, Cambria quartz offers many patterns and colors, from marble and wood looks to terrazzo or concrete. Cambria is also collaborating with several brands at NeoCon 2019, held in Chicago’s The Mart. Furniture maker Keilhauer is one exhibitor who will be featuring a collection of tables that incorporate Cambria’s quartz tops.
