The annual Radical Innovation Awards is now accepting entries to its annual travel and hospitality-based competition through April 30. New to the competition in 2020 is a hospitality product category, joining the design and concept category.
Designers, hoteliers and students are encouraged to submit their most innovative hospitality product capable of transforming the industry standard.
According to Radical Innovations’ website, judges are looking for hospitality concepts that provide:
- Fresh meaningful experiences for consumers
- New revenue growth opportunities
- Operating cost-saving opportunities for stakeholders

Competition Details and Awards
In addition to a clear and compelling brief, the rules state that all entries should be accompanied by design renderings and a cost analysis, illustrating how the concept could be achieved in the next two to five years. A panel of jurors in hospitality, design and investment will then evaluate all entries based on their originality, creativity, design and potential impact on the industry.
Finalists in the design and concept category will be flown to New York to compete in a live event this fall, where they will present their ideas. Audience members will vote to determine the grand-prize winner, who takes home a $10,000 prize. The runner-up receives a $5,000 prize, and the winner for the product category will also be decided on for a prize of $1,500.
The student winner, determined prior to the event by the jury, will earn a $1,500 prize and be invited to apply for a graduate assistantship in the Master of Architecture program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Redefining Travel and Hospitality Design
Radical Innovations has awarded over $200,000 through its international network since its founding in 2006. The 2019 winner, Connectic, by Cooper Carry Architects, is an example of how participants in the competition each year continue to push the boundaries of travel and hospitality. The winning concept employs modular construction techniques to fill underutilized spaces by way of collapsible, modular units that are flexible and adaptable to respond to a variety of environments.
“We wanted to solve a multifaceted industry problem to design a concept that exemplifies sustaining innovation,” said Cooper Carry architect Shraddha Srivastav in an interiors+sources announcement.
Along with its unique design, Cooper Carry Architects’ proposal included the technological advances necessary for the team’s idea to operate, detailing anticipated costs and logistics, a clear timeline and the design process, according to a Radical Innovations press release.
